"I DAY" - BAKU CITY TOUR
OLD CITY TOUR
The ancient heart of Baku is Icheri Sheher, a magical maze of narrow lanes and alleyways which are still mostly ringed by battlement-topped defensive walls erected in the 12th-century. Built on a site inhabited since the Paleolithic period, this old city’s core reveals evidence of Zoroastrian, Sasanian, Arabic, Persian, Shirvani and the Ottoman presence.
During the tour, you will discover traditional mosques with calligraphic facades, old hamams, merchants’ houses and charming trading streets made all the more colourful with quirky little art galleries and carpet shops.
You’ll climb the mysterious Maiden Tower (Giz Galasy), a unique stone structure whose purpose is as unknown as its construction date – possibly as early as the 6th-century BC. And to finish off, you’ll explore the 15th-century Shirvanshahs’ Palace, once home to the noble dynasty under which Baku had its first major period of historical brilliance.
GASTRONOMIC MASTER CLASS
We invite you to a master class in the preparation of Azerbaijani cuisine (dushbara, gutaba).
