"I DAY" - BAKU CITY TOUR

OLD CITY TOUR

The ancient heart of Baku is Icheri Sheher, a magical maze of narrow lanes and alleyways which are still mostly ringed by battlement-topped defensive walls erected in the 12th-century. Built on a site inhabited since the Paleolithic period, this old city’s core reveals evidence of Zoroastrian, Sasanian, Arabic, Persian, Shirvani and the Ottoman presence.

During the tour, you will discover traditional mosques with calligraphic facades, old hamams, merchants’ houses and charming trading streets made all the more colourful with quirky little art galleries and carpet shops.

You’ll climb the mysterious Maiden Tower (Giz Galasy), a unique stone structure whose purpose is as unknown as its construction date – possibly as early as the 6th-century BC. And to finish off, you’ll explore the 15th-century Shirvanshahs’ Palace, once home to the noble dynasty under which Baku had its first major period of historical brilliance.

GASTRONOMIC MASTER CLASS

We invite you to a master class in the preparation of Azerbaijani cuisine (dushbara, gutaba). Azerbaijan cuisine has long won recognition and extraordinary popularity among tourists and guests of our country. Dolma, bozbash, bosartma, chyhyrtma, piti, shish kebab, many kinds of pilaf, a variety of seafood, fruits, berries, nuts, all kinds of vegetables, herbs, fragrant spices, unique sweets and drinks ...

As per our tradition, the men in the group will have the opportunity to learn unique skills of cooking kebab under the guidance of a professional chef.  For the ladies, the second part of the program offers a master class in cooking gutabs (cakes made of thin dough with meat or vegetable fillings). The master classes will be followed by a fabulous lunch at the same location.

HEYDAR ALIYEV CULTURAL CENTER

Heydar Aliyev Center is fast becoming an intellectual center of the growing Baku city. On this guided tour, you will learn about Heydar Aliyev, the ex-president of Azerbaijan Republic and the leader of Soviet Azerbaijan. Peek into the details of Azerb life under his rule and understand what has changed since.

The center provides unique opportunities to learn about Azerbaijan; it’s monuments, cuisine, and culture. Enjoy exhibits such as “Pearls of Azerbaijan” and "Welcome to Azerbaijan" where you may hear the sounds of national songs, and understand how the monuments of the country are specific to different regions.
